Last month you asked Kate’s hairstylist Arleen Chavez for hair advice. Here are her answers!
Rachel: I have curly/wavy hair and I want to be able to wear it down without too much fuss but it gets really frizzy, are there any products that actually work to tame hair?
Yes, there is a leave in conditioner that works as styling product as well. It is called Mixed Chicks, it works really well and works all day.
Laryssa: Is it true that after trimming your hair it grows faster?!
Yes, it helps to create healthy hair too.
Anne: Is it possible to make fine straight hair look thicker?
Yes, with some voluminzing product such as Oribe Volumista mist. On damp hair spray product through the roots, blow dry and add some velcro rollers set with some hairspray, then remove rollers and style as you would.
Laura: My hair is damaged from flat ironing and coloring. What are some less damaging styling techniques? What’s your advice for treating the damage?
You should always use a heat protector when using hot tools, also a good leave in conditioner such as 7 seconds leave in conditioner on damp hair before you blow dry. Use a hair mask and deep conditioner for already damage hair, remember trim your hair to take off all the dry ends to maintain healthy hair.
Stylemaven02: I love the look of curls, but can’t get them to stay in my hair! I have a wide barrel curling iron. Help!!!
Use a smallar iron, but grab bigger pieces of hair, I use a 1” Hot Tools iron to create those waves, Use Redken Hot Sets 22 to hold a curl before you use the iron spray each strand of hair then curl, When finish use Oribe Apres beach wave and shine spay.
Andrea: I have dark(er) auburn hair, similar to Kate’s. I’d love to get highlights, but I’m not sure what shade to go for without it looking brassy or out of place. Any suggestions?
Be careful with Auburn hair, it tends to go brassy if your highlights are not toned after, you have to make sure your hairdresser tones the highlights to remove a red left behind.
Summer: My scalp is dry! I have tried every dandruff shampoo ever but none work for me. Is there a medicine I could take to help with this? Who do I go to?
A dermatologist would be your best bet.
Carol: I’m 64 and my hair on top is somewhat thinning. Is there a vitamin or shampoo that helps replenish hair?
Nioxin has some hair vitamins and a whole line of hair products that can help.
McSmiley: During the winter I struggle with both static and very dry conditions. Both not so good for my hair! Any thing I can do to help with that?
Moisture shampoo and conditioner such as Kpak by Joico and a light hair serum such as Orofluido after hair is styled should help.
